To do foundation piering:

  1. Excavation to access the bottom of the foundation
  2. Steel piles are attached to the foundation via brackets
  3. The steel piles are driven into the ground until they reach solid soil or rock
  4. Hydraulic jacks are then used to lift the foundation to its original height
  5. The Steel piles are then connected to the foundation using the support brackets
  6. The house is then gently lowered and the load of the home is transferred to the steel piles

Another type of foundation pier is a Helical pier. These piers involve the use of steel plates welded to the bottom of steel shafts. The Helical piers are then driven into the ground using a turning screw method. This method of screwing the piers into the ground provides a much more solid method in order to bear the load of the home. . However, instead of being driven to stable soil or rock, the helical plates in the soil bear the load. These types of piers are typically reserved for smaller homes or smaller weighted building.

A helical pier is cheaper and easier to install which makes it an attractive option for small jobs. This method will not work for supporting larger homes.
